First Stop: Russia

We didn’t like the idea of flying half way round the world to travel it, so our adventure starts in Russia. Yes, Russia. The big, scary country with a questionable history of leadership and boat loads of nuclear weapons. But to us it sounded like an exciting place to begin our journey.
The Trans Mongolian Express, a 7.500 km train journey that takes you through the heart of Russia into Mongolia and along the great wall of china to Beijing.  If we don’t kill each other in the 6x6 metre, 4 birth sleeper cabin shared with two strangers for 12 days we will make it through the rest!

So You Want To Go Travelling?

While I sit here writing my first blog entry, my girlfriend is sat next to me, angry and stressed. She is sorting out last minute travel documents whilst simultaneously shouting at me about everything and anything. This has been a common occurrence over the last few months, a constant bickering over the smallest of things.  For most couples they might be thinking that there are cracks starting to form in their relationship, but to us it is the realisation that in 18 hours we are about to give up everything we know and go travelling .

My name is Ollie and with my girlfriend Steffie, we are about to embark on a journey of a lifetime.  In the next 8 months we will be travelling over 4 continents and 9 countries.  From the snow capped mountains in Mongolia, to the dense jungles of Thailand, right the way round to the bustling streets of New York City. And with the help of this blog we want to share our journey and hopefully help to enlighten anyone that is thinking about making the mature decision to quit their job, move out of their house, kiss goodbye to their loved ones and go travel the world.
